New blood boosting Radical Caribbean SR3 Cup

New blood boosting Radical Caribbean SR3 Cup

After claiming two wins in each of the first two rounds, Stuart Maloney of Barbados heads in to the second half of the inaugural Radical Caribbean SR3 Cup season with a 22-point cushion at the head of the standings. On both weekends, however, the third race win was claimed by an SR3 Cup newcomer, teenager Isa Deen on home ground at Wallerfield in Trinidad & Tobago in June, then his fellow-countryman Kristian Boodoosingh in the Night Races on the Bushy Park National Circuit in Barbados in July.

This influx of new blood, resulting from the decision to expand the former SCS SR3 Cup in to a regional series, looks set continue, as Boodoosingh wasn;t the only newcomer at Bushy Park in July, when a third T&T racer Luke Bhola joined the series. All three return for round three at this weekend&quot's (September 1/2) Seaboard Marine Caribbean Motor Racing Championship (CMRC) race meet on the Bushy Park International Circuit, where Bhola will concentrate on the SR3 Cup at the expense of CMRC Group 2, which he is currently leading, and Gp3, in which he lies second.

Boodoosingh's victory on the National Circuit in June brought the number of race-winners since the SR3 Cup was launched in 2015 to 12 from 67 races, 10 from the region; with his four wins this year, points leader Stuart Maloney has surpassed brother Sean as the Cup's "winningest" driver, now with 17 victories. Sean is returning to the series at the weekend having missed the July fixture, along with Suleman Esuf; both are former SR3 Cup Champions, with 14 and 12 race wins respectively, so will be keen to make up for lost time ahead of the final round in Guyana in November.

Organised by Bushy Park Motor Sports Inc (BPMSI), the 22-race programme at the Williams Industries International Race Meet will cater for the CMRC categories, Groups 1 to 4 for cars and Superstock 600 Bikes, incorporating BPMSI&quot's points-scoring classes, along with the BimmaCup Challenge and the traditional Hilti Handicap. Action for he SR3 Cup will start with Practice and Qualifying on Saturday afternoon, followed by three 10-lap races on Sunday.

Run to the rules that have applied since 2015, the series only caters for the Suzuki-powered Radical SR3 RS and not for the Radicals of different specifications now being raced in the region by drivers such as Jamaica's Kyle Gregg and David Summerbell Jnr. BPCI was appointed sole distributor for Radical Sportscars in the Caribbean last year; based in the East Midlands city of Peterborough, the British manufacturer has built more than 2,000 cars, progressing from the iconic Clubsport model revealed in early 1996 and which established the company&quot's reputation, to the SR8, which brought Le Mans Prototype pace to the UK national racing scene.
